CHURCH & AP WAR OUTSIDE

Listening to ‘War Outside’, you’d probably never guess that rap duo Church & AP hail from New Zealand, perhaps with the exception of a subtle Kiwi accent we can hear peaking through. That’s the beautiful thing about the interconnected world, creators can take inspiration from US hip-hop bars or UK grime production and make something fresh that represents their locality. ‘War Outside’ is structured around a chorus that songs like a playground rhyme, with Church and AP taking it in turns to spit rhymes warning that world outside that they’re ready to go toe-to-toe if necessary. The pent up anger and frustration comes pouring through this track, as the pair elaborates, “We’ve been steadily carving out our lane and setting the tone in our scene. This song is a proclamation that we’re war ready. Nothing can get in the way of what we’re about to do.” If you’d like to hear more from this hotly tipped Kiwi duo, go find their debut album Teeth. - Hannah Thacker
